Description

Stems produce unusual fattened stem segments that resemble the roundness of a Buddha’s belly, hence the common name for this plant, “Buddha’s belly bamboo”. The swollen stem segments are more pronounced when the plant is under stress such as from drought or the plant being root bound in a container. Induce stress if the new growth is straight and not developing "bellies". This is a fast grower, perfect for growing a quick hedge or creating structure in a newly landscaped area.
