 Hortus Capensis is situated on the farm Queen of Africa near the base of the Langeberg Mountains in the Western Cape of South Africa.

We specialize in the propagation of bamboo and indigenous South African flowering plants like: Agapanthus “African Lilies” Aloes, Tecomaria, Eucomis Watsonia and other bulbs for the local and export markets.

We have one of the largest collections Indigenous species of Agapanthus in the world. Together with our large scale production capacity and post harvest processing facilities we are able to supply customers with small shipments via road (domestic) or air fright and large via sea freighted refer containers.

Founded and chaired by Jan Oprins of Oprins Plant in Belgium. Adrian Sutton is its Managing Director. Hortus Capensis was established over 17 years ago with the vision of promoting and developing commercial bamboo plantations in Africa.

P.T. Bambu Nusa Verde (BNV)

is a biotechnology company specialized in the micropropagation of bamboo species, located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. BNV is technically supported by Oprins in Belgium, and Hortus Capensis hardens off the plantlets prior to shipping them to customers throughout Africa

As a team we strive to maintain the highest technical standards to ensure the production of high quality true-to-type bamboo clones. We maintain a limited stock of selected species of elite bamboo planting material and can produce a wide variety of species to order.
